The Gift

i didn't end up wrapping the gift. i put it in a bag. i made the bag myself, so it's nothing special.
i just thought it would be cute. i went with spa products.
shhh, don't tell derek's sister what i got her. i don't think that she reads my blog, so i should be safe.

The Rules of Gift Giving

i'm still waiting for my glasses.

i just don't know what to get for derek's sister. she is getting married next month, but her bridal shower is this saturday. i only have a couple of days to go shopping. i had a couple of ideas that i thought would be okay, but derek made them sound stupid. maybe i'll do them anyway. he's a man, what does he know? somebody told me that if i get her a bridal shower gift then i am not expected to get her a wedding gift. is that true? to me a bridal shower gift is just for her, but the wedding present is for her and her (soon-to-be) husband. shouldn't i give a gift at both. i don't want to leave him out of the gift giving. "she's good enough, but not you!" that 's not very nice. i don't know. i don't care what anybody else does, but as for me and my house, we will get two gifts. maybe i should let derek choose the wedding present. hey, now there's an idea! they'll get something wrapped in a paper sack with marker written on it saying "congrats" or something like that. derek thinks wrapping paper is pointless and a waste. well, i do agree that it's a waste. all that paper that just gets tossed. well, i toss it. i'm not one of those people who carefully unwraps presents and then saves the paper. hmmm, maybe i'll wrap it in fabric. that would be fun. i have some green fabric with hearts on it. her wedding colors are green and purple, so that would work out nice. now i just need to get the present.

New Glasses

well, i ordered glasses. i haven't been wearing any for a few years now, so this is pretty big. they should be in this week. i'm just waiting for a phone call to go and pick them up. they are the plastic kind, not the wire kind. i've never had this kind before, but i really hate the nose thingies on the wire kind, so i tried something new. i hope it all works out well. anyway, when i went to go order them and pay, the man who was measuring my face and i were talking. i can't quite remember why, but he asked me how old i was. i told him i was 28, which i really am. i feel no need to pretend i'm younger. he said that i looked a lot younger than that and his coworker said that i could pass for 17. i know this. i have no wrinkles. i just have good genes and i'm chubby. double pluses for no wrinkles. well, this was coming from two older people. the other day my niece asked me how old i was and i told her 28 and she said that i looked more like i was in my late 30's. what does she know anyway?!

Burn Victim

wow, has it really been like a week since i posted? i guess so.

well, i guess i will talk about the excitement we had last night. i was gonna cook noodles so i turned on the burners so that they would heat up. andrew almost immediately put his hand on one and screamed right away. i took him to the bathroom and ran cool water over his hand and then got a washcloth and got it wet with cool water and had him hold it on his hand. i called nursemom at work and asked her what i should do. she asked what had happened and said that i should put burn cream on his hand. so i called derek and told him everything. he went to the store and got the cream. i put it on andrew's hand and then put a bandage on it. later i changed the bandage. this morning the burn doesn't seem to be bothering him at all. so glad it wasn't bad enough to go to the hospital for. they'd probably investigate me again. oh, in case you didn't know, we were investigated for neglect when emmy fell out the window. everything was resolved in just a couple of days. that was back in october of '07.

My Present

so, i hate knowing that there is a surprise and not knowing what it is. if someone is going to surprise me then i wish they would just not tell me.
the other night derek and i were at walmart and i was saying something about what he could get me for valentine's day. then he tells me that he already has my present and do i want to know what i'm getting. of course, i'm conflicted. i don't want to know what i'm getting before i get it, but he's offering to tell me. i finally decided that i wanted to hear what i am getting. derek is gonna go to the valentine's dance with me at church. we've never been to a dance together, and , according to him, we've never spent valentine's day together. i can't think of any year that we did, so i'll go with him on that one. anyway, i'm way excited to go to the dance. the last dance i went to was when i was single. to me, this is pretty exciting.

Time to Pay the Publicans

today we are getting our taxes done. we always go to H and R Block now. one year we did them ourselves and something was wrong and about six months later the IRS got ahold of us and we owed them six hundred dollars. H and R Block will guarantee your return and they will cover any owings later on. basically, they'll be right or taken care of by H and R Block. it's nice to know that we won't get any surprises. anyway, got to go make sure that i have everything that i need!

Stitches 2: The Return of the Coffee Table

so i stayed up really late last night watching tv on the internet. today i was really tired and called my mother in law to see if she could come over and keep me awake. she said that she had things she needed to do at home. we went over there and within an hour emmy had hit her head and opened a gaping whole. off we went to the hospital. she got four or five stitches, i can't remember. they are covered with a bandaid, so i can't see them. she hit her forehead on the opposite side that andy did back in december. now they'll have matching scars. we're pretty sure that she hit the same coffee table as andy. don't understand it.

Switching Spaces

so we split the kids up. emmy is now in what used to be the toyroom. on saturday my mom and niece "stayja" came and helped me clean up the toyroom. we got rid of half the toys. soooo needed. anyway, then we vacuumed it and the hall. then we tried to get her bed out of the bedroom she was in. we couldn't do it. we had to call dad and he came and took the bed apart for us and then moved it and put in back together. stayja and i cleaned the bedroom and rearranged it. we moved andrew's bed and his dresser. then i checked out emmy's room. it was so cute, too. i really like that they each have their own spaces. andrew can now have his train track set up at all times and he's not in emmy's way. it's also nice to get rid of a lot of the toys. most of them they never played with and the others i got rid of because they were annoying. they had this backyardigans guitar that they loved, but they would turn it all the way up and play it constantly. bye bye guitar! anyway, it's really cool to have them be grown up enough to do this.

Groundhog Day!

once again, the groundhog has seen his shadow. i wonder if there is a groundhog for this region of the US? maybe punxsatawney phil speaks for the whole nation. i don't know. the only thing i like about groundhog's day is that it's another holiday based on ancient traditions. this one being nature and prediction. i don't mind holidays having pagan roots. it's kinda fun, i think.
